CULT VS GAL: its lineage, descendants, and standing in Japan

01What this origin is

CULT VS GAL (カルトに厳しいギャル -CULT VS GAL-) is an old-school first-person shooter developed and self-published by the solo Japanese circle Crush-vAdin, released May 3, 2024. Set in an empire of the year 248 undone by war, where a cult called Galwoya has begun abducting the population, it sends in a single soldier, nicknamed Hell Smasher Saki, alone once the army sent before her is wiped out. Its own store page bills itself as "ultra old-school, yet high-tempo, user-friendly": a shotgun and an assault rifle cover the ranged half of the fight, while a right-click melee attack lets Saki decapitate cultists outright, an act that briefly makes her invincible and is recommended by the store page itself as a strategy rather than a last resort, across four episodes and sixteen-plus maps. It sits at Very Positive on Steam's own review API (387 of 397 reviews positive). It is the origin of developer Crush-vAdin's own small lineage of gun-and-blade old-school shooters starring a gal cutting down whatever antagonist that week's title names, continued directly in the same developer's GAL VS VILLAGE, which names this game by name as its predecessor on its own store page.

GAL VS VILLAGE Buried gem

GAL VS VILLAGE (ギャルトムラ) opens with a report: on a date given only as the 45th of the 23rd month of the year 2XXX, a place called Haiseta, spelled 葉意背多 but read exactly the same as the ordinary word for a village gone to ruin, is confirmed to have crossed into another world. A statement of responsibility comes from the village's guardian Kurobachi family and its own residents, and the message it carries is a single line: know us. In response, the Bureau for Managing Transcendent Beings dispatches Special Task Force Number 444, an agent whose name on the Japanese store page reads 血染寺・"ブラッドサッカー"・ユイ and whose own English-language store page renders it as Kessenji "Blood-sucker" Yui, a soldier whose entire body has been ritually altered to withstand the otherworld itself. The store's own Japanese tagline sums up her attitude in one line: わたしが、カミをころす, I am the one who kills the god. Steam's own short description calls the result an old-school FPS: SHIFT sends Yui into a burst of high-speed movement, a left click fires a gun one-handed, and a right click swings a meat cleaver, with both attacks sitting on the mouse at once rather than behind a weapon-switch menu. For players new to the genre, the same store page lists a guide function billed as "you probably won't get lost anymore" and a lowest difficulty billed as "you basically won't die," aimed squarely at people who do not usually play FPS games. It also carries over a structure the developer credits to their own prior release, in the store page's own words: "our previous game, Cult-Strict Gal, shipped what we're calling the industry's first multi-ending, and naturally, this one lets you choose among multiple endings too," an unverified claim by that same developer that we quote rather than adopt as fact. Both the ending theme and the title theme, 今生エターナル (This Life, Eternal), are credited as written and composed by the developer, with the ending track's arrangement, recording, and mix credited to Takayuki Kato, working under the name kikato of the band 色々な十字架. Released March 11, 2026, at ¥500 (about $4.99), it is a paid title, not free, and fully launched rather than Early Access. Per Steam's own review API it sits at 100 percent positive across 99 reviews (99 positive, zero negative, enough for a Very Positive rating rather than the harder-to-reach Overwhelmingly Positive tier, which needs 500-plus), and text support is limited to English and Japanese, with no Chinese or Korean localization. Even so, our own per-language pull of that same review API shows only 30 of the 99 reviews, 30.3 percent, are in English; Japanese carries 54 (54.5 percent), and the rest splits thinly across Simplified Chinese (3), Traditional Chinese (1), Korean (2), and other languages, players engaging with a game that was never localized into their language at all. Steam's content descriptors list two categories, Frequent Violence or Gore and General Mature Content, with nothing on the sexual-content descriptor and no AI-generated-content disclosure on the page. The developer and publisher of record is Crush-vAdin, a solo circle led by a developer going by Bhaskara with no parent company, whose earlier titles CULT VS GAL (2024) and HAZAMA_QUEEN are sold alongside this one in a single Steam listing, Crush-vAdin's FPS Bundle. We found no official Discord, social account, or other outreach link on the store page, and no Western press coverage of this release turned up in our own search.
