Every fight in front of you is asking which of two styles you should become. switch mid-mission, and picking wrong is the only threat that actually matters.
A side-scrolling action RPG developed and published by the small Japanese studio CelLab (セルレ部) together with the label 072 Project / 072 News, released April 30, 2026. Maid robot Rurumu's core awakened after she wished to live happily ever after with her Village Head, but that same awakening got in the way of her real goal, understanding what makes humans happy in the first place; when she failed to keep the Village Head safe and discovered just how bad she was in a fight, she set out to protect Noruru Village and find her own 'Fighting Style.' She shares the mission, and the game, with Kitsunetsuki Koharu, a War Shrine Maiden of the Demon Slayer Institution who has ended more of her own corrupted fellow shrine maidens than actual demons and privately wishes she could just become a heartless demon-slaying robot herself. You switch between the two of them and their distinct fighting styles mid-mission, picking whichever counters the fight in front of you, while missions send you through a variety of enemies and treasure to chase mission challenges and a high score (one of its Steam achievements is literally named 'Perfect Chain Destruction'), and RPG-style equipment and upgrades carry independently for each of them. It is CelLab's own direct sequel, not a reboot: the studio's earlier game, a minesweeper-based adventure released in 2021, starred this same robot heroine on this same mission to protect this same Noruru Village, per both games' own Steam listings. It is Very Positive at 98 percent per Steam's own store page (94 of 96 reviews positive per Steam's review API), a paid title at $12.99 in the US (¥1,980 in Japan), not free, fully launched and not in Early Access, with no AI-generated assets and, per Steam's own content descriptors, nothing sexual (ids: none, notes: none). It supports Traditional Chinese, English, and Japanese text and interface only, and while aggregator pages for it already exist on sites like IGDB, Metacritic, Kotaku, and Backloggd, and the indie tracker PixelWave has covered it, we found no substantial Western editorial review or feature; only about 18 of its 96 reviews, roughly 18.8 percent, are in English so far, so its reach into the West has barely begun.

01First, the one feeling
- Rurumu and Koharu fight in genuinely different styles, and Steam's own listing is explicit that you are meant to read each situation and switch mid-mission to whichever one counters it, so the same enemy pattern can demand two different answers depending on which of the two you happen to be when you meet it.
- Missions run you past a variety of enemies and treasure while you chase mission challenges and a high score, and one of the game's own Steam achievements is literally named 'Perfect Chain Destruction,' so clearing a stage cleanly and clearing it for score turn out to be two different goals stacked on the same run.
- Equipment and upgrades carry independently for each of the two fighting styles, and the achievement list confirms three separate areas to explore (Village Outskirts, Snow Mountain, an Underground Passage) plus a bonus 'Infinite Tower' you can keep climbing floor by floor once the story's demon-clan plot is done, so the build you settle into during the campaign is the same one you carry into whatever comes after it.
02Who this is for (and who it is not)
For you
- You want a side-scrolling action RPG built around switching between two distinctly different playable heroines mid-mission, a maid robot finding her own 'Fighting Style' and a demon-slaying shrine maiden who has killed more of her own corrupted friends than actual demons, each carrying independent equipment and upgrades
- You want a small Japanese studio's direct sequel to its own earlier game, not a reboot: developed by CelLab, it keeps the same robot heroine Rurumu and her drive to protect the same Noruru Village from its 2021 minesweeper-adventure predecessor, but replaces that puzzle loop entirely with real-time, switchable combat and a second playable character
- You want to catch a very fresh Very Positive release before its English-language audience arrives: 98 percent over 96 reviews as of this writing, with only about 18.8 percent of them in English so far and no substantial Western editorial coverage found yet
Not for you
- You want a slow, puzzle-first game like the developer's own earlier minesweeper-adventure title; this is real-time action built around switching fighting styles under pressure, and it is a paid, fully launched title at $12.99 (¥1,980 in Japan), not free and not in Early Access, with no AI-generated assets and nothing sexual by Steam's own descriptors
- You want full Simplified Chinese or Korean support; Steam's own listing offers Traditional Chinese, English, and Japanese only, and with just 96 reviews total and roughly 18.8 percent of them in English, this is about as unproven-in-the-West as a release gets right now

Core Awaken Rurumu's will Buried gem
A side-scrolling action RPG about a maid robot named Rurumu whose own core awakened the moment she wished to 'live happily ever after with the Village Head,' only to find that awakening got in the way of the goal it was chasing in the first place: understanding what actually makes people happy, by becoming more human herself. After she fails to keep the Village Head safe in an incident and discovers just how incompetent she is in a fight, she sets out to protect Noruru Village and find her own 'Fighting Style,' developed and published by the small Japanese studio CelLab (セルレ部) together with the label 072 Project / 072 News. She shares the mission, and the controls, with Kitsunetsuki Koharu, a War Shrine Maiden of the Demon Slayer Institution trained since childhood, who has already had to end more of her own corrupted fellow shrine maidens than actual demons and privately wishes she could just become a heartless demon-slaying robot herself. Per Steam's own store page, the two of them switch between distinct fighting styles mid-mission, and the game is built around reading each situation and picking whichever style counters it, while missions run you through a variety of enemies and treasure toward mission challenges and a high score (one of the game's own Steam achievements is literally named 'Perfect Chain Destruction'), with RPG-style equipment and upgrades layered on top for each of them. Its achievement list also confirms a chapter structure that includes a dedicated 'Koharu Chapter,' three explorable areas (Village Outskirts, Snow Mountain, and an Underground Passage), and a bonus 'Infinite Tower' you can climb floor by floor once the story's demon-clan plot is foiled. Released April 30, 2026 per Steam's own listing on both its Japanese and English storefronts, it is Very Positive at 98 percent per Steam's own store page (94 of 96 reviews positive per Steam's review API), a paid title at $12.99 in the US (¥1,980 in Japan), not free, fully launched and not in Early Access, with no AI-generated assets and, per Steam's own content descriptors, nothing sexual (ids: none, notes: none). It supports Traditional Chinese, English, and Japanese text and interface only (no Simplified Chinese, no Korean), and while pages for it already exist on aggregators like IGDB, Metacritic, Kotaku, and Backloggd, and the indie tracker PixelWave has covered it, we found no substantial Western editorial review or feature to point to; only about 18 of its 96 reviews, roughly 18.8 percent, are in English so far, so calling this discovered by the West would not be honest. What is true is that its recognition outside Japan is only just getting started.
Give it your first passMinesweeper Adventure Tale 2: Rurumu's Adventure Same heroine's earlier game
Not a defining-mechanic ancestor but the game this heroine headlined before this one: Minesweeper Adventure Tale 2: Rurumu's Adventure (扫雷冒险谭2 ~露露姆的冒险~), a minesweeper-based adventure game (Steam's own genre tags list it as Adventure, RPG, and Strategy) developed by the same studio, CelLab, and published in the China market by OTAKU Plan, released March 19, 2021 with Simplified Chinese as its only supported language per Steam's own listing (no English or Japanese version exists). It stars the same robot heroine, Rurumu, on the same mission she is still on in Core Awaken Rurumu's will: getting the people of Noruru Village home safely, in this case after a disaster leaves their route home buried in landmines. Per its own store page, the number revealed on a swept tile tells you how many mines surround it, so you mark them by deduction across more than a hundred stages, picking up items and dodging traps that help or hinder that read along the way, and leveling up equipped skills using stars earned as stage-clear rewards. Core Awaken Rurumu's will keeps Rurumu and her drive to protect that same village, but hands her a completely different kind of game: real-time, switchable combat alongside a second playable heroine, Kitsunetsuki Koharu, in place of a number-reading minesweeper puzzle.
