Flip cards from your deck toward exactly 21, just like Blackjack. Bust past it and lose the whole turn; hit it exactly and an Ultimate Skill Card joins your hand.
Per Steam's own listing, this is a 'Blackjack-inspired deckbuilding roguelite': you flip cards from your deck one at a time, and just like Blackjack, if the total cost of the cards you've flipped exceeds 21, you Bust and lose the entire turn, but hit exactly 21 and an Ultimate Skill Card joins your hand. An energy resource lets you return flipped cards to your hand to hold for later, so the whole turn becomes a bet against your own deck: keep flipping toward 21, or lock in what you have. Items drop from defeated enemies that unlock different Ultimate Skill Card builds, a chain-attack-focused 'Drill Deck' or a big-hand 'Missile Deck' among them. A run takes about 20 minutes, the base game is one story stage plus three high-difficulty stages built to be cleared and done, and finishing it all unlocks a Sandbox Mode for chasing even harder difficulty. Developer and publisher are both credited simply as Monoko Mononobe, and Steam's own developer search turns up only this title and its demo, nothing else. Released August 10, 2026, barely a week before this piece went up, it is Positive at 100 percent across 31 reviews (31 positive, 0 negative), a paid title at $3.39, not free, fully launched and not in Early Access, with no AI-generated-content disclosure and Steam's content descriptors completely empty. One honest note up front: this is a brand-new release, and 31 reviews is on the thin side even by this site's standards, growing by the day. Of those 31, 23 are in Japanese and only 5 are in English, and no Western outlet, AUTOMATON WEST included, has written about it yet.

01First, the one feeling
- Every single card flip is its own tiny gamble against a number you already know, 21, so the tension of a whole Blackjack hand gets compressed and repeated dozens of times inside one turn instead of resolving once and being over.
- Spending energy to hold a flipped card for later turns the bust threshold from a wall you avoid into a resource you manage, so the decision stops being 'stop before you bust' and becomes 'which almost-bust am I willing to bank.'
- Landing exactly 21 for an Ultimate Skill Card, rather than just clearing the danger zone safely, rewards the version of the gamble that Blackjack itself never pays extra for, and that one twist is what turns a card game's math into a combo engine.
02Who this is for (and who it is not)
For you
- You want Balatro's idea, a classic card game's own scoring rule rebuilt as a roguelite combo engine, run through Blackjack's bust condition instead of poker hands
- You want short, dense runs: about 20 minutes each, one story stage plus three hard stages, then a Sandbox Mode once you've cleared everything
- You want to be early: released one week before this piece, solo-developed, Steam's own developer search shows only this title and its demo
Not for you
- You want a settled number; 31 reviews barely a week after launch is thin even by this site's standards, and it's still climbing
- You want combos that build across a whole round like Balatro's Jokers; this one resets its central bet, push toward 21 or lock in, on every single card

Give it your first passBalatro The origin
The origin of this taste: Balatro, LocalThunk's poker roguelike, which took a classic card game's own win condition, a made poker hand, and rebuilt it as the combo engine of a deckbuilding roguelite, stacking Jokers and modifiers until a single hand chips away a boss blind in one outrageous swing. It did not invent the idea of reskinning a familiar card game's scoring rule as a run-based combo system, but it is the version that made the West fall for it wholesale. MEGAKO☆PUNCH! runs the same trick with a different classic game entirely: instead of poker hands scored for value, it borrows Blackjack's own bust condition, flip toward 21 without going over, and turns hitting the number exactly into the trigger for an Ultimate Skill Card instead of a poker payout. Where Balatro's combos come from Jokers modifying hand values across an entire round, MEGAKO☆PUNCH!'s come from an energy-gated choice on every single card flip: push toward 21 again, or lock in what you're holding.
